Air Suspension As your air suspension system ages, components like the compressor, air springs and valve block seals start to wear out and deteriorate. This can leave you with an un-drivable Range Rover sitting on the bump stops and a tow bill to the shop. During your regularly scheduled maintenance we inspect these components and bring any defects or potential issues to your attention.
Unlike the Landrover dealers we have access to individual components and some improved aftermarket parts to rebuild and repair your air suspension system without the high costs of complete assemblies.
Rover V8 Engine Oil Leaks The long standing Aluminium Rover / Landrover V8 is a late 1950's design. Although much improved now in the 4.0 and 4.6 liter configurations and better sealing and gasket technology, it seems oil leaks from the headgaskets, rocker cover gaskets and rear engine seal are still common issues.
There are a couple factors that worsen the situation. First is poor maintenance. If you are not getting your oil changed at least every 6months or 6000km the oil will break down and become acidic which could damage your engine and seals. Second is driving habits. Short trips, hard acceleration (when cold) or excessive idling are also hard on your engine.
The later 4.0L and 4.6L engines use torque to yield bolts and composite headgaskets. Unfortunately, this has resulted in mostly inaccurate head bolt torques in service. To improve the situation, we measure the cylinder block and heads to ensure there is no twist or warpage then carefully prepare the surface before installing Genuine Landrover composite headgaskets and new torque to yield bolts. Next, we torque the bolts to the specifications using our highly accurate, electronic torque angle torque wrench, which most repair shops don't even have.
The latest Genuine Landrover rear main seals, bearing cap cross seals and rocker cover gaskets have all been improved over the last few years and are much better than the earlier ones or any aftermarket ones we've seen.
Landrover 4-cyl Diesel Engines When was the timing belt on your diesel engine last changed? If you don't know, its time for a timing belt service. The timing belt on the Landrover 2.5NA, 2.5turbo, 200Tdi and 300Tdi diesel engines should be changed every 60,000miles or 96,000km. If your timing belt fails due to neglect, pulley misalignment or oil contamination it will cause major internal mechanical damage to your engine which could cost thousands to repair.
During timing belt service the crankshaft bolt must be removed and replaced and therefore "should" be correctly installed every time. Unfortunately, this has not been the case with a number of engines showing up here in BC so much so that checking this bolt has become part of our pre-purchase inspection.
We have had to replace a number of worn alignment keys, timing belt gears, crank pulleys and even a damaged crankshaft because the crankshaft pulley bolt had come loose and allowed the pulleys and crankshaft to wear away with no way of knowing it from the drivers seat.
We have all the Landrover factory tools to complete your timing belt service properly. Please call for an estimate for your next timing belt service.
